International League Shelley Duncan, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre .375 (9-24), 4 R, 1 2B, 0 3B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 4 BB, 8 SO, 0 SB, .917 SLG Duncan, a 27-year-old left fielder, certainly came out swingin' this season. The Arizona native has driven in two runs or more in five of the seven games he has played, and has gone yard in four of them. The highlight of his season so far occurred on Tuesday against Richmond, when he went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Pacific Coast League D'Antona's season-opening eight-game hit streak was snapped in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, a small setback which did little to dilute his staggering statistics. The 25-year-old Connecticut native currently leads the PCL in average (.563), hits (18), doubles (6) and total bases (31). Not bad for a guy making his first foray in Triple-A.
Eastern League Choy Foo went 4-for-4 with a homer, three runs scored and two RBIs against Altoona on Opening Day, and hasn't looked back since. The Hawaiian shortstop has hit safely in all six games he has played and is batting .524 thus far. On Thursday against Bowie, Choy Foo connected for a grand slam as Akron defeated Bowie, 9-5.
Southern League Jones, the SL's hits leader, has pounded out six multiple-hit games en route to a stellar .415 batting average. The former 24th-round draft pick's most memorable moment came on Wednesday, when his two-run homer in the ninth inning lifted the Braves to a 3-2 walk-off win over Carolina.
Texas League After six Minor League seasons, Mather has finally made it to the Double-A ranks. He's making the most of his opportunity in the early going, hitting .393 with four home runs, eight runs scored and seven RBIs over seven ballgames. On Thursday against Midland, Mather homered twice and drove in three runs. In one of the great injustices of our time, the Cardinals still lost by a score of 4-3.
California League Bell has hit safely in 10 of 11 games thus far, but it was in Lancaster's season-opening series against Bakersfield that he truly excelled. After mustering eight home runs over his first 523 Minor League at-bats, the 24-year-old connected for five over his first 21 at-bats of 2007. Bell collected 11 hits and 15 RBIs during this span, en route to his Minor League-leading 21 hits and 21 RBIs.
Carolina League Cook hit just .233 for the Warthogs in 2006, but it's looking like 2007 is going to be a far different story. The former ninth-round draft pick is hitting .321 to start the season, and seven of his nine hits have gone for extra bases. Cook has scored nine runs and driven in seven over just 28 at-bats.
Florida State League Brinkley was off to a fine start even before his stellar performance against Daytona on Sunday. The 25-year-old went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four runs scored in the Hammerheads' disappointing 7-6 loss to Daytona. Brinkley's five home runs on the season are tied for the most in the Minor Leagues.
Midwest League Gerrard has been a hitting machine to start the season, picking up four multiple-hit games en route to a Midwest League-leading .480 batting average and .567 on-base percentage. The 22-year-old left fielder has pounded five doubles, scored seven runs, and driven in five.
South Atlantic League Want an idea of how hot Raynor has been in the early going? Then consider this -- he reached base three times in the one game in which he didn't hit safely. The 23-year-old left fielder leads the SAL in average (.472), on-base percentage (.548), and runs scored (14). In fact, Raynor has crossed the plate in eight of the nine games in which he has played.
