April 23, 2007
International League
Ryan Doumit, Indianapolis
.423 (11-26), 6 R, 1 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 5 BB, 6 SO, 2 SB, .692 SLG
Doumit hit .423 this week, which actually lowered his IL-leading mark to .435 on the season. On Tuesday, the 26-year-old backstop belted a grand slam and drove in five runs to lead his Indians to a 7-5 win over Norfolk. Doumit followed up that impressive performance by driving in two runs in each of the next three ballgames, and he now leads the league with 15 RBIs.

Pacific Coast League
Chris Carter, Tucson
.577 (15-26), 5 R, 6 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 1 SO, 0 SB, .808 SLG
Carter has hit safely in all 15 games he has played this season, and he is currently on a streak of six straight multi-hit games. The 24-year-old's .444 average ranks second in the PCL, while his 28 hits are the most in all of Minor League Baseball. Carter has particularly excelled at Tucson Electric Park, as he has collected 20 hits over 34 home at-bats.

Eastern League
Jonathan Van Every, Akron
.471 (8-17), 5 R, 2 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 11 RBI, 4 BB, 5 SO, 0 SB, 1.000 SLG
Van Every hit .471 this week, raising his average 175 points to .357. Even more impressive, the 27-year-old has driven in 11 runs in his last 13 at-bats. The highlight of Van Every's week came on Sunday against Reading, as he went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, five RBIs and three runs scored as the Aeros routed the Phillies, 14-3.

Southern League
Chris Walker, Tennessee
.419 (13-31), 6 R, 1 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 3 BB, 5 SO, 5 SB, .548 SLG
Walker brought speed and power to the top of the Smokies lineup this week, as the switch-hitter blasted a pair of three-run homers and stole five bases. The 26-year-old has hit safely in nine straight games and is now batting .345 on the season. Walker's seven steals are tied for the most in the Southern League, and he has yet to be thrown out on a steal attempt.

Texas League
Drew Sutton, Corpus Christi
.481 (13-27), 5 R, 3 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 4 SO, 0 SB, .556 SLG
After his average bottomed out at a season-low .185 on April 15, Sutton went on a tear that has yet to see its conclusion. The 23-year-old infielder has hit in six straight games and is now batting a healthy .333 on the season. Sutton collected three hits against Frisco on both Friday and Sunday.

California League
Jose Lobaton, Lake Elsinore
.556 (10-18), 6 R, 5 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 4 BB, 4 SO, 0 SB, 1.167 SLG
Lobaton collected 10 hits in 18 at-bats this week, a hot streak that nearly doubled his season average (from .172 to .341). The highlight of his week undoubtedly occurred on Saturday against High Desert, as he went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored to lead Lake Elsinore to a 13-4 victory.

Carolina League
Javier Castillo, Winston-Salem
.478 (11-23), 4 R, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 3 BB, 4 SO, 0 SB, .826 SLG
Castillo went 0-for-4 on Saturday, a disappointing end to a week in which he was otherwise unstoppable. The Panamanian third baseman had his best game of the season on Tuesday against Myrtle Beach as he went 4-for-5 and blasted his first home run. It was all for naught, however, as the Pelicans rallied for a 9-8 victory. Castillo is now batting a solid .313 on the season.

Florida State League
Neil Walton, Vero Beach
.474 (9-19), 2 R, 2 2B, 2 3B, 0 HR, 7 RBI, 2 BB, 4 SO, 1 SB, .789 SLG
Walton hit safely in all six games he played this week, and is now batting .326 on the season. After failing to collect an RBI over his first eight games, the 23-year-old shortstop has driven in seven runs in his last 19 at-bats. Walton has been a success at the plate no matter what the circumstance as he is batting over .300 vs. both lefties and righties, at home and on the road, and in both day and night games.

Midwest League
Chris Valaika, Dayton
.481 (13-27), 6 R, 3 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 7 RBI, 2 BB, 6 SO, 0 SB, .667 SLG
Valaika tore up the Pioneer League last season, and now he's doing the same thing in the Midwest. The 21-year-old's 11-game hitting streak ended on Sunday, but he is still sporting a league-leading .423 average on the season. Valaika has already collected seven multi-hit games, including Friday's 4-for-5 performance against Quad Cities.

South Atlantic League
Brandon Tripp, Delmarva
.545 (12-22),7 R, 3 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 1 BB, 4 SO, 2 SB, .955 SLG
Tripp entered the week hitting .378, and still found a way to raise his average 63 points (to a league-leading .441). The 22-year-old right fielder has collected five straight multi-hit games, and scored at least one run in each of his last four. On Thursday, Tripp went 4-for-6 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored as Delmarva eked out a 5-4 win over Lakewood.
