If you only have one start in a week to make a pitch for back-to-back Pitcher of the Week awards, throwing a no-hitter is about as good a showing as you can have.

For his efforts in throwing the first no-hitter in Minor League Baseball in 2007, Wade Davis was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 1-7. It is the second week in a row that Davis has received the honor.

Davis threw the second no-hitter of his career this week, blanking the Jupiter Hammerheads on May 4th. In the 4-0 win, Davis allowed one walk, striking out seven. Over the course of his last three starts, Davis is 2-0 with a 0.42 ERA. Hitters are batting .076 against Davis in the three game stretch. He has struck out 23 batters in 21 innings.

It was the second no-hitter of Davis' career

"This game was a little different [than the last no-hitter] because I felt that my stuff was sharper," said Davis, of the difference between this no-no and his one last year agains Beloit. "I had much better command of my fastball and the sinker had great movement. Our defense was pretty locked in, too, so I was pretty confident that they would be able to get to pretty much anything."

The award is the third of the season for the Devil Rays. Neil Walton was named FSL Hitter of the Week for the week of April 16-22.

Davis will next start against Clearwater on Wednesday afternoon.
