COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today unveiled the its 2007 squad that will face-off against the best from the International League in the 20th annual Triple-A All-Star Game. The contest will be played July 11th at Albuquerque's Isotopes Park in with first pitch set for 7:35 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
Several league batting and pitching leaders have claimed spots on the roster, including current home run leader Craig Brazell (.333, 22 HR, 42 RBI) from Omaha, Colorado Springs closer and league saves leader Ryan Speier (3.18 ERA, 20 saves), and hits leader Alex Romero (.327, 2HR, 42 RBI) of Tucson. Sacramento infielder Daric Barton (.335, 6 HR, 46 RBI) holds the highest batting average among active league players and was also named to the team.
League RBI leader and elected first-baseman Micah Hoffpauir (.321, 14 HR, 69 RBI) of the Iowa Cubs will be joined on the right side of the infield by teammate second-baseman Eric Patterson (.292, 10 HR, 41 RBI). They will share the infield with Colorado Springs shortstop Clint Barmes (.331, 3 HR, 27) who currently sits in fifth place in the PCL batting race, and by Albuquerque third baseman Scott Seabol (.294, 16 HR, 54 RBI).
Starting pitcher Chris Oxspring of Nashville (6-4, 3.14 ERA, 89 K) will join Tacoma's Justin Lehr (7-1, 3.65 ERA, 47 K) to anchor a deep pitching staff rounded out by a group of standout relievers that includes the likes of Mike Wood (6-1, 2.28 ERA) of Oklahoma, Dan Geise (3-0, 1.71 ERA) of Fresno, and Chad Harville (4-2, 3.09 ERA, 18 saves) of Tucson.
The PCL All-Star roster is made up of 13 elected players who have received the most votes from ballots submitted by clubs' field managers and general managers (1/3), selected members of the media (1/3), and online fan voting (1/3). All 16 PCL clubs will be represented on the roster, with Colorado Springs leading the pack with four All-Stars, followed by the Nashville Sounds and the hometown Albuquerque Isotopes, each sending three players.
2007 will mark the tenth showdown under the current IL vs. PCL format, as the first ten contests pitted All-Stars selected from National League affiliates against those from the American League. The PCL currently leads the overall series with a record of 5-and-4.
