Mills slams Hagerstown in Lake County debut
Indians top pick captains 10-4 win after Mahoning Valley promotion

Beau Mills smacked a grand slam to power visiting Lake County to a 10-4 win over Hagerstown on Thursday.

With one out in the third inning, Mills sent a drive over the center-field fence to give the Captains a 5-0 lead. He went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in his first game since being promoted from Class A Mahoning Valley of the New York-Penn League.

The 20-year-old third baseman was taken by the Cleveland Indians with the 13th overall selection in this year's First-Year Player Draft and is the son of Boston Red Sox bench coach Brad Mills. He hit .179 in 28 at-bats with Mahoning Valley.

Adam Davis went 3-for-5 with a solo homer, his fourth, in the ninth for Lake County (6-1). Fernando Pacheco, who also made his debut with the Captains after playing six games for Mahoning Valley, went 2-for-3 and blasted his first homer.

Reliever Scott Sumner (1-0) gave up a run on four hits while fanning three in 2 2/3 innings for the win. Starter Hector Rondon allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three in 4 1/3 innings.

Suns starter Yunior Novoa (5-7) gave up seven runs -- four earned -- on eight hits and two walks, fanning two in five innings.

Francisco Plasencia homered and drove in two runs for Hagerstown (0-7), which has dropped eight in a row.
