LOWELL, MA - The Lowell Spinners, Class A Affiliate of the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox, announced today that every Spinners game during the upcoming 2008 season will be broadcast on the new 980 WCAP AM Radio, serving the entire Merrimack Valley.

The Spinners will be returning to 980 WCAP, now under new ownership, after a one-year absence from their airwaves. A play-by-play announcer for the Spinners season is yet to be determined.

The new 980 WCAP broadcasts local news and sports, including the Lowell Devils and UMASS Lowell Riverhawks Hockey.

"We are delighted with the relationship," said Clark Smidt and Sam Poulten, Managing Partners of Merrimack Valley Radio, 980 WCAP's new ownership. "The Spinners go hand in hand with Lowell and the Merrimack Valley. WCAP looks forward to serving as a positive communicator and cheerleader for the continued momentum, family activities and businesses of our outstanding area."

"The Spinners are excited to be a part of the new 980 WCAP," said Lowell Spinners Vice President and General Manager, Tim Bawmann. "The station has been an important part of the Merrimack Valley community, and it's only fitting to have the Spinners broadcast on the same airwaves."

The new 980 WCAP is set to begin operating in the next week. The transfer of 980 WCAP has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission from original owner Maurice Cohen to Merrimack Valley Radio.

The 2008 Spinners season comes in the wake of the Boston Red Sox World Championship. Five former Spinners - Jacoby Ellsbury, Jonathan Papelbon, Kevin Youkilis, Clay Buchholz, Brandon Moss and first base coach Luis Alicea - contributed to Boston's AL East and World Series Championships this season.
