It was announced today that after 21 years with the Harrisburg Senators Baseball Club, assistant general manager Mark Mattern is no longer part of the team's front office. Mattern made the announcement from his private office in Mechanicsburg.

Mattern, the team's assistant general manager, baseball operations for the past 14 seasons, was not retained by the team's new ownership group. The Harrisburg Senators were recently sold by the City of Harrisburg to an ownership group out of Chicago, Ill.

Mattern began his tenure with the Senators in 1987 as a radio broadcaster and in advertising sales. He was named director of public relations after two seasons with the team. In 1994, Mattern was promoted to assistant general manager, a position he held until a few weeks ago.

Over his entire 21 year tenure, Mattern continued to broadcast games on the radio for the Eastern League team. Mattern was on-the-air for more than 2,300 games with the Senators, including the club's six league championships.

Besides the radio broadcasts, Mattern was deeply involved with the day-to-day operations of the Harrisburg Senators. Mattern was responsible for the team's public and media relations, community relations, advertising sales, publications, web site, public speaking, press box operations, along with several other areas.

Prior to working with the Harrisburg Senators, Mattern was the assistant general manager for the Wildwood Aces of the professional United States Basketball League, and was sports director for WWOC Radio in Avalon, N.J.
