Cohen comes to Billings from Scarsdale, NY, where he just wrapped up this third season of basketball play-by-play for the Manhattan College Jaspers. He will be the first radio broadcaster to call Billings games in the Mustangs new home -- Dehler Park.
"I'm anticipating there will be a lot of excitement in Billings with a brand-new ballpark and an excellent coaching staff, including former Mustangs and Reds great Tom Browning," Cohen said. "I can't wait to be a part of it."
Cohen graduated from Ithaca College in 2005 and embarked on an extremely busy career in sports broadcasting. In addition to spending last year in Burlington, Cohen has worked for NBA TV, MSG Network, NBC Sports, Sirius NBA/NFL Radio and two New York television stations.
"This is going to be a great summer," Cohen said. "I had a very enjoyable experience last year in North Carolina, where I improved as a broadcaster but also met many great people in the Appalachian League. I'm looking forward to building on that this season, in an absolutely beautiful part of the country."
Cohen takes over for Jerry Schemmel, who is currently the radio voice of the NBA's Denver Nuggets. Schemmel took a sabbatical from the Nuggets last year to work for the Mustangs. Mark Boyle, of the Indiana Pacers, did the same thing in 2005.
"I know that there have been some excellent announcers in Billings in recent years, with Jerry Schemmel and Mark Boyle, and I'll do my best to keep things fun and informative for everybody listening," Cohen said. "It will truly be a baseball journey for three months."
The Billings Mustangs season gets underway on June 17 in Missoula. The first home game at Dehler Park will be July 1, when the Great Falls Voyagers come to Billings.
The Mustangs are currently selling season tickets for the 2008 campaign. Individual game tickets will go on sale May 1. For more information call the Mustangs at 406-252-1241.
