The Royals have drawn 278,032 fans in 52 home dates so far this season, an average of 5,347 fans per date. That's an increase of almost eleven percent from a year ago, when a total of 248,360 fans came through the Rosenblatt Stadium gates in the first 52 home dates, for an average crowd of 4,776. This season's average attendance of 5,347 is the largest that the team has posted since 2000, when the Royals drew 413,713 fans to 68 home dates for an average crowd of 6,084. The Royals have ranked as high as 9th in average attendance in the Pacific Coast League this season, currently standing at 10th in the 16-team circuit. The top five crowds in 2008 - each over 11,000 - adds up to 78,647 fans. That's substantially higher than the top five crowds last season, which totaled 70,731. The fifth-largest home crowd this season occurred on Saturday, August 2nd, when 11,044 fans came out to see the Royals take on Salt Lake. That marked the biggest attendance figure for a Saturday home game since July 3, 2004, when 24,989 fans - the largest crowd in franchise history - came out for the annual Omaha World-Herald Fireworks game. Not counting that special date, the crowd on August 2, 2008 marked the largest for a Saturday home game since 2001. "Due to our staff's dedication toward making Rosenblatt a premier place to enjoy the great Minor League Baseball experience, we have been able to see a resurgence in attendance for Omaha Royals games," said Martie Cordaro, Royals General Manager. "Despite dealing with some of the worst weather in recent history, our fans have given us tremendous support this season and we look forward to an even better 2009." So far in 2008, seven home dates have been lost due to rain, cold and a weather-related power outage at the ballpark. By comparison, the Royals lost only four home dates a year ago and the club hasn't lost as many as seven home dates since 1999, when the team had to squeeze 71 home games into 64 dates. Cordaro also notes that the Triple-A team will record its best advertising and group sales totals in team history this season. This year's group sales are up over 41 percent compared to last season, while advertising sales are up almost ten percent and sales of season tickets and other ticket packages are up nearly eight percent.
