Modern Woodmen Park has gone through a series of upgrades and additions over the last year, but the Quad Cities River Bandits are not done yet. As the organization continues seeking to improve and beautify the riverfront ballpark, they are asking local fans to join the discussion. On Thursday, August 28, the River Bandits and Modern Woodmen Bank unveiled a new promotion called "You Pick the Improvement." The promotion is co-sponsored by the Quad-City Times, Cumulus radio and WQAD Newschannel 8. The two-phase process will run similarly to last season's Name the Team contest, but instead of picking a new name, fans will be asked to help select the next major upgrade for Modern Woodmen Park. "We want to hear from our fans," said team owner Dave Heller. "We look at this team and this ballpark as a public trust. The River Bandits belong to the people of the Quad Cities, and Modern Woodmen Park is our home. We put as much love and care into our home as our fans do into theirs. We are dedicated to continued improvement of the ballpark and we want our fans to be a part of that. I can't wait to see what they come up with." "Modern Woodmen Bank and the River Bandits both strive to improve the quality of life in the Quad Cities," said Steve Ollenburg, President and CEO of Modern Woodmen Bank. "This contest will help make exciting changes to Modern Woodmen Park and we are happy to be a part of that process." The first phase of the contest will begin on Friday, August 29, and run through Friday, September 19, giving fans the opportunity to submit their suggestions for the next ballpark improvement through the Internet by going to www.ModernWoodmenBank.com/RiverBandits or www.RiverBandits.com. "Cumulus is proud to be a sponsor for the You Pick the Improvement contest, which is a great way of making fans a part of the River Bandits team," added Brad Johnson, Local Sales Manager for Cumulus. "We interact with the people of the Quad Cities every day in our business and recognize the importance of keeping fans involved. We are glad to be a part of the River Bandits effort to reach out to the great people of the Quad Cities." At the conclusion of the first phase, the River Bandits will narrow the suggestions down to six finalists. Fans will then have the opportunity to vote for their preferred ballpark improvement online at www.ModernWoodmenBank.com/RiverBandits from Wednesday, September 24 through Wednesday, October 15. The winning entry will then be announced on Thursday, October 16th. The fan that picks the winning idea will be rewarded with a pair of 2009 season tickets for themselves and a guest. If more than one person suggests the winning improvement, a drawing will be held to determine the winner of the prize. The winning entry will be announced live on WQAD Newschannel 8. "It's so exciting to see the commitment and foresight that the new owners of the River Bandits have in continuing to grow in the Quad Cities," said Larry Rosmilso, President and General Manager of WQAD Newschannel 8. "Making changes and adding new things to any business is a sure way to become more successful." "With improvements like the Jumer's Casino and Hotel Hot Tub Deck, the new Tiki Village, improved and themed concession stands and a cornfield already in place, we're off to a great start," said Vice President/General Manager Kirk Goodman. "Now we're relying on the imagination and ingenuity of our fans. From the beginning, we have asked our fans to voice their opinions, and when it comes to something as important as improving Modern Woodmen Park, it's natural to seek the guidance of the people that support the team." |
