• Dress like a real Pelican • Visit the official P-Nats team shop • Complete playoffs coverage Boomer Whiting raced home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 15th inning Wednesday to give the Potomac Nationals a 2-1 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the opener of their best-of-5 Mills Cup semifinal series. Whiting led off the 15th with a single, stole second, took third on a groundout and scored when Russell Haltiwanger (0-1) bounced one in the dirt. The Nationals had taken a 1-0 lead in the fifth on Dan Lyons' RBI double. The Blue Rocks tied it in the eighth on Jeff Howell's solo homer. Michael Martinez and Stephen King had two hits apiece for Potomac, which got eight shutout innings from relievers Atahualpa Severino, Josh Wilkie and Dan Leatherman (1-0). Haltiwanger gave up one run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss. Box score In other Carolina League action:
