Hounds Can't Overcome Early Deficit

June 1, 2009
Saturday night, the RockHounds came back from seven runs down (9-2 in the eighth) to defeat the Tulsa Drillers. Sunday afternoon, the 'Hounds found themselves down by seven again, trailing 7-0 after the first inning. Ths time, there would be no dramatic comeback as Tulsa evened the series at one game apiece with an 8-3 win over the 'Hounds at Drillers Stadium in the fifth game of the RockHounds' 6-game road swing.

The loss snaped a season-high 6-game win sreak and was the club's first on the crent road trip (4-1) which ends Monday afternoon in Tulsa.

The RockHounds let Tulsa starter Samuel Deduno off the hook in the first inning, loading the bases with one out but not scoring. In the home half of the inning, the Drillers used six hits and a pair of RockHounds errors to put seven runs on the board (five earned) against 'Hounds starter Bobby Cramer.

Tommy Everidge and Chris Carter homered for the 'Hounds, with Tommy driving in a pair and Chris going solo. The duo have combined for eighty-five (85) RBI on the year ... Everidge with 45 and Carter with 40 ... each among the Texas League's top five. Tommy's home run also extended his hit streak to nine games, while Chris has now hit in six straight.

The 'Hounds got a little help on the out-of-town scoreboard, as both Frisco and San Antonio also fell on Sunday. The RoughRiders trail by three and the Missions by four. Corpus Christi snapped a 6-game losing streak with a win over North Division leader Springfield, but the Hooks are seven games back in the South.

The RockHounds will bid for a third consecutive series win and a 5-1 road trip when they face the Drillers at 12:05 Monday in Tulsa.

Jared Lansford was assigned to the RockHounds from extended spring training. He opened the season with (AAA) Sacramento, but had gone back to the A's Arizona training facilities to work out some mechanical issues with Oakland's minor league re-hab pitching coordinator, Gavin Alston. Jared arrived in Tulsa Saturday and pitched 1.0 inning (one hit batsman and one strikeout). In 15 appearances with the 'Hounds last season, the right-hander had a 0.70 ERA.

Kristian Bell has been re-assigned to Stockton of the (Advanced-A) California League.
