TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats will turn Joseph L. Bruno Stadium into a boxing ring for the third straight year when the organization teams ups with Sweeney Boxing for the Empire State Gloves. The bout features amateur fighters from across New York State. On June 13, the region box-offs will be held at the stadium with the semifinals and finals a month later on July 18-19.

The ValleyCats and Sweeney Boxing held a press conference on Thursday, May 28 announcing the bouts. Participating fighters included the top ranked fighter in the 135 lb class, Amir Iman from Albany, Will Maderam rated in the top five of the country, heavyweight Eric Conklin, East Greenbush's Charlie Roohan, undefeated Sarah Kuhn from Albany and welterweight Nick Castaldi.

Empire State Gloves marks the third consecutive year the ValleyCats have hosted boxing at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. In 2007, the organization hosted a professional bout, KO at The Joe, and in 2008, an amateur fight featuring local boxer Shawn Miller.
