The State College Spikes are proud to announce an array of green activities and promotions surrounding the 2009 New York-Penn League All-Star Game on Tuesday, August 18. The game will be held at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, which was the first ballpark in America LEED-certified for leadership in environmental and energy design, and will be the first green All-Star Game in Minor League Baseball history.

Fans will be educated on green practices throughout the game as the Penn State Office of Physical Plant and the Spikes will provide interactive conservation displays at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the All-Star Game, including a water exhibit and an energy bike to display how much energy can be produced by one person.

Travelers to the NYPL All-Star Game can also benefit from going green with complimentary VIP parking for vehicles using hybrid energy sources. In addition, the recycling boxes in place for bottles, paper cups and programs will be joined by new recycling cans provided by the Penn State Office of Physical Plant to help fans better separate their recyclables.

The green efforts practiced for every Spikes home game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park will continue as well, with waterless toilets, low-flow sinks, the reuse of cooking oil throughout the ballpark, and close access to public transportation. For a full list of the everyday green practices at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, log on to StateCollegeSpikes.com and check out what earned the park its LEED certification.

Plus, in an effort to conserve materials and aid the environment, every All-Star program will be made of 100% recycled paper. The programs will be printed by KB Offset of State College, a leader in green printing methods. Also, no logos will be painted onto the field.

Tickets to the 2009 New York-Penn League All-Star Game are still available, but are going fast. Seats start at $10, and can be purchased by visiting the Spikes Box Office at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, calling the Spikes toll-free at (877) 99-SPIKES, or logging on to StateCollegeSpikes.com.
