Naturals Continue To Beat Hounds

Six of the eight clubs in the Texas League played extra innings Thursday night, with the RockHounds and Northwest Arkansas the only teams to finish their business in "regulation time."

The Naturals broke a 2-2 tie on the last of the eighth inning, defeating the RockHounds, 3-2 to win the first two games of the 3-game series between the Texas League's division leaders.

The Naturals led, 2-0, going into the seventh when Chris Carter hit a solo home run ... his league-leading 22nd of the season. Matt Spencer, whose fourth-inning single extended his hit sreak to 11 games, then doubled to deep right-center, narrowly missing back-to-back home runs. Shane Peterson's ground out and Josh Donaldson's sacrifice fly then brought "Spence" home with the tying run.

The RockHounds threatened against Kansas City Royals reliever Kyle Farnsworth in the eighth, with Jemile Weeks drawing a walk followed by an Archie Gilbert single. Juan Abreu relieved Farnsworth (who is on a Major League re-hab assignment with NW Arkansas) and walked Carter to lead the bases, then struck struck out Spencer to end the inning.

Ed Lucas singled in the go-ahead run in the last of the eighth, and Abreu survived another 'Hounds threat in the ninth (including a 2-out, 0-2 single by Weeks) for the win.

Each of the other three clubs in the South (Frisco, San Antonio and Corpus Christi) posted an extra-innings win, chopping into the RockHounds' led in the division (see above). San Antonio and Springfield, rained out Wednesday night in the Alamo City, were scheduled to play a double-header Thursday evening. Game one then went 13 innings ... and nearly four-and-a-half hours ... forcing the clubs to move the double-dip to Friday.
