The New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was created in 2003. The Foundation's mission is to provide focus and support for the collective charitable and community efforts of the League and its clubs. Its motto is "The Power of Baseball, the Power of Giving".
Participating teams in the 2009 NYPL playoffs which kick of Tuesday, September 8 include: Mahoning Valley Scrappers, Brooklyn Cyclones, Staten Island Yankees, and Lowell Spinners. After opening the playoffs on the road on Tuesday for Game 1 against the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Scrappers will play at home at Eastwood Field on Wednesday, September 9 for Game 2 of their semi-finals series with game time scheduled for 7:05.
After getting hit in the head with a foul ball at a game on September 2, Lucas Holko continues his recovery at the Akron Children's Hospital. The family has set up the Luke Holko Fund to help with expenses associated with the accident and his recovery. Contributions can be made at any area Cortland Banks location.
