Bay, Gonzalez led BayBears contingent in postseason

October 8, 2009
Two former Mobile BayBears are playing in Major League Baseball's postseason, as Jason Bay (2002) of the Red Sox and Carlos Gonzalez (2007) of the Colorado Rockies take the field in hopes of reaching the World Series.

Bay played in just 23 games for the BayBears before being called up to Portland. Since his days with the BayBears, Bay has played for San Diego, Pittsburgh and Boston, after going through the farm systems of the Montreal Expos, New York Mets and Padres.

This season for the Red Sox, Bay has put together an All-Star season hitting .267 with 36 home runs and 115 RBI.

Gonzalez has been spark plug for the Rockies in their Wild-Card season after coming over from the Oakland A's in a trade prior to the 2009 season.

Gonzalez started his first postseason game by going 2-for-4 against the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

Gonzalez, who spent most of the 2007 season with the BayBears before being called up, hit .284 in 89 games this season including 13 home runs. Gonzalez also stole 16 bases on the year for Colorado.

The Rockies and Phillies will play Game 2 of their series today at 1:07 p.m. (CST), while the Red Sox and L.A. Angels of Anaheim being their series tonight at 9:37 p.m.
