"The Bandits are all about making memories and showing our fans a great time for a great price," said team owner Dave Heller. "And with the economy where it is, we believe the best way for us to succeed is to give our fans more -- more giveaways, more bobbleheads, more great entertainment acts, more in-game promotions, more concerts, and more fun every night. That's why our 2010 promotional line-up is chock-full of great events and giveaways - many of them on the same night. Because the only thing more fun than a great Bandit promotion is a neat give-away at the same time!"
This year's promotional slate is loaded with quality giveaways. A total of six bobbleheads will be handed out at the Modern Woodmen Park gates this season, headlined by Cardinals greats Stan Musial and Albert Pujols. The Musial bobblehead - a rarity, as Stan The Man usually does not permit such replicas - will go to the first 2,000 fans on Saturday, May 22 and the Pujols bobblehead will highlight a series of Cardinals bobbleheads on July 17. The others in the Cardinals series, to be given out on Saturdays in July and August are Tony LaRussa, Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina. Bert Blyleven will kick off our new "Should-Be A Hall of Famer" bobblehead series.
In addition to bobbleheads, the Bandits will host numerous familiar faces at the ballpark. Dennis Haskins, more famously known for his role of Mr. Belding on the hit 90's show "Saved by the Bell", will stop by on June 14 to lead the cast of entertainment acts and celebrity appearances fans can expect at Modern Woodmen Park. The always-popular Zooperstars will, for the first time, be making two appearances to the Quad Cities, one on June 11 and the other on August 6. Pro-wrestling legend Jerry "The King" Lawler will be on hand July 15. Breakin' Bboy McCoy will entertain fans in May and June and Birdzerk will make his return to Modern Woodmen Park in September. New this season, fans won't want to miss Team Ghostrider, a troupe of monkey cowboys making their Quad Cities debut on July 16th.
Also new this year will be the River Bandits' "Circle of Life" promotion. For one long weekend, the Bandits will celebrate a quartet of momentous life occasions, May 7-10. On Friday, May 7th, the River Bandits will host "Maternity Night", with all expectant mothers being welcomed with a free lamaze class, craving stations on the concourse, and a grand prize of a maternity package, including baby furniture and accessories. On Saturday, the River Bandits, along with the Quad-City Times and the Lucier Family, will award the inaugural Keith Lucier Memorial Scholarship and award one deserving student a free year's tuition at the University of Iowa. On Sunday, the team will give away a Bandit Wedding, with the winner announced on May 9th and the ceremony to be held at the ballpark on August 20, and on Monday, the River Bandits will complete the Circle of Life by giving away a free all-expense-paid funeral!
Another hit returning to this year's promotional calendar is the award-winning Mega-Candy Drop! Young fans can again expect a shower of candy and marshmallows to pour from a helicopter hovering high above the outfield of Modern Woodmen Park on July 11th. Tattoo Night made headlines in 2008 and 2009 and it returns for round three on August 12. Anyone willing to get a permanent River Bandits tattoo on a visible part of their body will be admitted free for the remainder of the 2010 season and for all of 2011! Also making an encore is our second annual Bandit Wedding with a lucky couple set to tie the knot on the field prior to the game on August 20.
Fans can also expect the return of special theme nights, including Jimmy Buffett and Breast Cancer Awareness nights with jersey auctions following the games to raise money for deserving Quad Cities-area charities.
Used Car Night will make its debut in 2010. That evening, a number of lucky fans will each win a new (to them!) used car, compliments of a local dealership.
The River Bandits are returning a full slate of daily promotions in 2010 led by the always popular Lujack's Fireworks Fridays, Thirst-day Thursdays, and the Rockin' Saturday Concert series. This year will also feature exciting new nights like Dog Days of Summer every Sunday, as fans are invited to bring their dog to each Sunday home game, as well as Fantasy Fridays and Belly Buster Wednesdays.
Thirsty Thursdays and Tailgate Olympics will start each weekend with two-dollar 16oz draught beers and 22oz sodas. Fireworks will again follow each Friday night game thanks to Lujack's, with the addition of an ongoing fantasy baseball competition using River Bandits players. Starting on May 22, each Saturday and select Thursday games will feature a different postgame concert taking place in the party plaza. Weekends will conclude with Family Days and Dog Days of Summer on Sundays when dogs have an open invitation to the park every Sunday in 2010. Following every Sunday home game kids can run the bases in the Monkey Joe's Kids Run.
Dollar hot dogs are back on Dollar Dog Mondays, tickets are two-for-one and kids eat free on Economic Stimulus Tuesdays and fans can gorge themselves on Belly Buster Wednesdays where a bleacher ticket and an all-you-can-eat menu will cost just $19.
"Our fans can count on something special every night of the week," said River Bandits General Manager Kirk Goodman. "Whether it's a great giveaway, a food special, a special entertainment act or a crazy theme night, our fans will leave the game having had a great time and with a memento or memory that will last for years."
Single-game tickets for the 2010 season are currently on sale online by visiting www.RiverBandits.com and the box office will be open for all other single-game tickets on Monday, March 15.
UP NEXT: Modern Woodmen Park is staying busy as a special events venue over the off-season, providing the perfect atmosphere for parties, corporate functions and more. Meanwhile, the 2010 baseball schedule has been released and fans can already put down a deposit on season ticket and mini-plan packages - including the brand new Super Seven Plan - right now by calling (563) 3-BANDIT.
ABOUT THE BANDITS: The Quad Cities River Bandits open the 2010 season by unveiling their brand new state-of-the-art field, which not only looks fantastic but should also minimize the number of rainouts this year. The team set a new post-renovation mark for single-season attendance in 2009, as 236,401 fans passed through the turnstiles for an average of 3,694 fans per game. Both figures marked the highest since 1995, while the average attendance was the third highest in franchise history and the total attendance was the fifth highest all-time. The total attendance was up 14 percent over the 2008 season, continuing a 59 percent attendance increase since Main St. Iowa purchased the franchise following the 2007 season. Ticket sales, concessions, merchandise sales, sponsorships and even Kids' Zone revenues were all up over 2008, which was one of the team's best in history! Season and group ticket deposits for 2010 are currently being accepted.
