The "Your Town, Your Team" logo will be showcased throughout the season at the ballpark and around the Michiana community. More importantly, the theme will be shown through the actions of the Silver Hawks team and staff with a strong commitment to community service.
"In past years, the Silver Hawks players have done roughly 200 to 300 hours of Community Service," said Lynn Kachmarik, Vice President and General Manager of the Silver Hawks. "This season, we already have over 1,000 hours scheduled for the players and coaches, with more still to come."
The event was interrupted halfway through with a phone call from Mike Berger, Director of Player Development for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He offered a one-day contract for Joe Kernan to once again play for the Silver Hawks in the exhibition game against Notre Dame.
Joe, who played college baseball for Notre Dame, gladly accepted the offer.
"I would be honored to suit up again," Joe said into the phone. "I'm willing to do anything to help the team."
In addition to the Notre Dame exhibition game, plans for a "Meet Coach Brian Kelly" Night and a "Notre Dame Women's Basketball Team" Night were announced.
The full schedule of daily promotions was announced by Amy Hill, Director of Marketing and Community Partnerships. Souvenir Saturdays are a new addition to the familiar favorites of Dollar Mondays and Fireworks Fridays.
Joe Kernan summarized the day and the plan for the 2010 season when he said, "This is family entertainment, and it's built on baseball."
