NEW YORK -- Former sixth-round pick Adam Bostick was suspended 50 games on Thursday for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced that Bostick, a pitcher in the Kansas City Royals system, has received the suspension after a second positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Bostick, who is currently on the roster of Triple-A Omaha of the Pacific Coast League, is effective immediately.

Bostick, a 26-year-old left-hander from Jeannette, Pa.[,] had not appeared in a game this season with Omaha. He split the 2009 campaign between Triple-A Buffalo and Double-A Binghamton in the New York Mets' organization.

He finished the 2009 season a combined 3-3 record and a 3.05 ERA in 39 outings.

Originally selected by the Marlins in the sixth round of the 2001 Draft, Bostick joined the Mets on Nov. 20, 2006, when the Marlins dealt him for pitchers Henry Owens and Matt Lindstrom.

Major League Baseball has suspended 12 players this year under the Minor League program.
