For the first time since the 2007 season, the Hooks have the Texas League's Player of the Week. For the period May 10-16, Corpus Christi left fielder J.B. Shuck has been selected as the league's Player of the Week.

In six games this past week, Shuck batted .407 (11-27) with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 4 runs and 7 RBIs. He also stole one base and went 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Shuck is currently riding a season-best nine-game hitting streak in which he is 16-for-39 (.410).

Shuck is the first Hook chosen as the Texas League's Player of the Week since the final week of April (23-29) in the 2007 season, when second baseman Jonny Ash earned the acclaim.

Selected in the sixth round of the 2008 draft out of Ohio State University, Shuck hit .315 at Lancaster last season, notching 30 doubles, 11 triples, one homer, 36 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. He led the California League in at-bats (556) and hits (175) and proved to be the most difficult player to strike out on the circuit (1 K for every 11.45 plate appearances).
