GREENSBORO, NC - The Lakewood BlueClaws defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 7-2 on Monday, thanks to some strong pitching and a few key defensive plays.
Leading the pitching attack for Lakewood was starter Colby Shreve. Shreve threw 7.0 innings, and gave up only two runs on five hits while improving his record to 5-4 on the season.
Also leading the charge for the BlueClaws was outfielder Leandro Castro, who was four for five with an RBI on the day, and shortstop Jonathan Villar who was a part of four turned double plays in the game.
As a result of the loss, the Grasshoppers have now lost four consecutive games after jumping out to a 7-1 start to the second half of the season.
Greensboro was limited to only two runs on five hits as a team, and has only scratched out eight hits in the first two games of the series combined.
Down 4-2, the Hoppers mounted a late charge by loading the bases in the 8th inning before Lakewood pitcher Ebelin Lugo was able to get Ryan Keedy to strike out swinging.
These two teams will play again tomorrow as LHP Chad James (3-4, 4.09) takes the mound for the Hoppers against RHP Trevor May (0-0, 0.00) and the BlueClaws. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
