Weber Wings Complete-Game Gem, Erie Tops B-Mets 2-1
07/23/2010 10:37 PM ET
 (Binghamton Mets)

Binghamton was baffled by Erie starter Thad Weber, who worked a complete-game and allowed just four hits in the B-Mets 2-1 loss to the SeaWolves Friday night. It was Weber's first complete game of the season and sent Binghamton to its fifth loss in its last six games.

Nick Evans got the B-Mets on the board in the first with a solo homer to left off Weber. It was Evans' 17th homer of the season and it proved to be the lone run for Binghamton (51-49).

Erie (40-60) responded in the third inning with a homer of its own off starter Mark Cohoon. Chris White connected on a 1-2 fastball from the southpaw and sent it out of the yard to left, tying the score.

Cohoon and Weber threw up dueling zeroes until the sixth. Cohoon hit Shawn Roof to start the frame. Cesar Nicolas joined Roof on base with a single to left. After Rawley Bishop sacrificed the runners up, Cohoon intentionally walked Audy Ciriaco to load the bases. Kody Kaiser followed with a single to right, scoring Roof to give the SeaWolves a 2-1 lead. At that point, Cohoon exited and Manuel Alvarez entered. Alvarez retired the next two, keeping the margin at one.

Alvarez retired all five hitters he faced over 1 2/3 innings and Eddie Kunz followed with two, perfect innings of relief. However, the B-Mets could not rally behind them.

Cohoon was charged with the loss despite working his best start to date with the B-Mets. The lefty tossed 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on five hits for his third loss.

The B-Mets and SeaWolves match up in the third game of the four-game set Saturday at 7:05 PM. RHP Chris Schwinden (4-6, 5.37) goes for Binghamton against LHP Duane Below (3-9, 4.57) of Erie. The radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
