Following a scoreless top of the first inning, Frederick jumped out to the lead on a solo homerun by RF Ronnie Welty. With two out in the first, Welty crushed the J.J. Hoover pitch to deep centerfield for his 11th homer of the year.
Myrtle Beach quickly took the lead from Frederick following a bevy of miscues in the top of the second. 2B Jordan Kreke led off the inning with a single off of RHP Ryan O'Shea. With RF Luis Sumoza at the plate, O'Shea balked to advance Kreke to second. After a Sumoza single, DH Gerry Rodriguez flew out to rightfield. However, during the Rodriguez at bat, O'Shea threw a wild pitch that moved Sumoza to second base. With two men in scoring position, C Braedan Schlehuber hit a ground ball in the hole on the left side of the infield. SS Pedro Florimon ranged to his right and made a great backhanded play. Florimon tossed the ball over to first but 1B Tyler Townsend dropped it. Kreke scored on the play to tie the game and Sumoza moved to third. LF L.V. Ware drove in Sumoza on a groundout to second to give Myrtle Beach the 2-1 lead.
The Pelicans added another run in the third on solo blast by 3B Dan Nelson. Nelson's homerun was his second in as many nights.
The score remained 3-1 until the top of the seventh. CF Cory Harrilchak connected for a two-run homer off O'Shea to give Myrtle Beach a 5-1 lead. Two batters later, 1B Mike Jones hit a solo shot on what was O'Shea's last pitch on the night. O'Shea allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits over 6.2 innings on Sunday night.
Frederick failed to score in the final three innings as they fell by six runs to Myrtle Beach. Pelicans' starter, RHP J.J. Hoover, improved to 8-5 on the season after allowing one run on three hits over seven innings of work. Ryan O'Shea fell to 5-6 in the defeat.
