Just two innings after erasing an early 6-1 hole, Kyle Bellamy allowed five eighth inning runs while recording just one out. Bellamy (0-2, 12.71) entered with the game tied at 7, but he allowed the first five Lookouts' batters to reach base. Dee Gordon led off the frame with a bunt single to Greg Paiml and moved to third base on a throwing error by the Hoover native. Consecutive walks loaded the bases for Corey Smith who pushed the visitors ahead for good witha two-run single. Andrew Lambo followed with a run-scoring single up the middle. Kyle Russell closed the scoring one out later with a ground rule double to center field that plated two more Lookouts.
Justin Edwards was shaky on the hill once again for the Barons, though his defense did him no favors. Gordon reached on an error to leadoff the game and came around to score on the first of two home runs by Jerry Sands, this one hitting in the top of the speaker system in center field. Lambo followed with Chattanooga's second home run of the night one out later, and the visitors added another run two batters later on a single to center by Russell. The Lookouts added to their lead in the second inning with back-to-back home runs by Trayvon Robinson and Sands.
Edwards finished the night tossing 4.0 innings. He allowed seven runs on seven hits, though only three runs were earned. He also struck out two batters and walked three more.
The Barons offense refused to go easily, though and kept cracking away at Chattanooga's big lead by scoring a single run in each of the first four innings thanks to a big effort by Tyler Kuhn. Kuhn twice scored from first base, once in the first inning off a double by Jim Gallagher and again in the third inning on a double by Eduardo Escobar. Kuhn later added an RBI single in the fourth inning that cut the Lookouts lead to 7-4. C.J. Retherford also added a solo home run in the second inning.
The Barons got to Chattanooga reliever David Pfeiffer, running him from the game with a big sixth inning. Cole Armstrong led off with a single up the middle and moved to second base on a fielder's choice error by Jaime Pedroza. John Shelby III cleared the bases with a double to center field and came around to score on Greg Paiml's game-tying single to left field.
Brent Leach started the game for the Lookouts but was pulled after two ineffective innings. He allowed three runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out a batter before being pulled after facing four batters in the third inning.
Justin Miller (2-0, 2.25) picked up the win after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. He served up one hit and issued two walks while striking out two batters.
Henry Mabee had a big night out of the pen, pitching 3.0 shutout innings in relief of Edwards to keep his team in the game. He gave up three hits and walked a batter while striking out four.
The Barons committed a season-high five errors on the night.
The two teams will play again Thursday night with a 7:05 PM start time. Charlie Shirek (2-3, 3.69) will aim to put the Barons back in the win column opposite Tim Sexton (3-10, 4.36).
