J.P. Arencibia of the Las Vegas 51s was named the Pacific Coast League's MVP, while Albuquerque's John Lindsey, who leads the Minors with a .359 average, was named to the league's "All-PCL" roster as designated hitter. The veteran has 23 homers and 91 RBIs with the Isotopes this season and trails only Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton (.361) for the best average in professional baseball.
The PCL's top two power hitters, Arencibia and Salt Lake's Mark Trumbo, highlight the team's star-studded infield. Arencibia, Toronto's first-round pick in 2007, is batting .301 with 32 homers and 85 RBIs behind the plate for the 51s this year -- he also memorably blasted a pair of homers in his Major League debut with the Blue Jays.
Trumbo is hitting .301 and leads the Minors with 34 homers. He's knocked in 115 runs for Salt Lake and has been especially hot since the All-Star break, batting .357 with 14 home runs and 45 RBIs.
'Topes third baseman Russ Mitchell, Redbirds second baseman Daniel Descalso and Cubs shortstop Darwin Barney rounded out the team's infield. Barney hit .299 with 49 RBIs and is currently with Chicago.
Salt Lake center fielder Peter Bourjos, one of three All-Star outfielders, was named the league's Rookie of the Year on Tuesday after hitting .314 with 13 homers, 52 RBIs and 27 steals.
Sacramento's Chris Carter, with 31 homers and 94 RBIs, and Iowa's Brad Snyder, with 23 long balls and 100 RBIs, joined Bourjos in the outfield.
Fresno right-hander Eric Hacker, who leads the PCL with 16 wins, Oklahoma City southpaw Michael Kirkman, who owns the highest winning percentage at .813 (13-3 record), and Las Vegas closer Jeremy Accardo, who is tied for the league-lead with 24 saves, were selected as the team's pitchers.
The All-PCL squad and league's postseason awards were selected by PCL field managers, general managers, broadcasters and local media.
