Paul Goldschmidt, 23, of The Woodlands, Texas, led the classification with 35 home runs and a .606 slugging percentage. The Visalia Rawhide first baseman led the California League with 42 doubles and ranked second in RBIs with 108 in being named the circuit's MVP and Rookie of the Year. The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Goldschmidt in the eighth round out of Texas State in 2009.
Kyle Seager, 23, of Kannapolis, N.C., led the California League with a .345 average, 192 hits and 126 runs. The High Desert Mavericks second baseman was second in the league with a .419 on-base percentage. The Seattle Mariners drafted him in the third round in 2009 out of the University of North Carolina.
Stephen Parker, 23, of American Fork, Utah, hit .296 with 21 home runs and 98 RBIs for the Stockton Ports. The third baseman ranked in the top four in the California League in RBIs, doubles (38) and walks (84). The Oakland Athletics took him in the fifth round in 2009 out of Brigham Young University.
Grant Green, 23, of Anaheim, Calif., was among the top 10 California League hitters in average, runs (107), slugging (.520), doubles (39), hits (174) and OPS (.883). The Stockton Ports shortstop hit .318 with 20 homers and 87 RBIs. The Oakland Athletics drafted Green with the 13th overall pick in 2009 out of the University of Southern California.
Johermyn Chavez, 21, of Turmero, Aragua, Venezuela, finished second in Class A with 32 homers and 109 runs. The High Desert Mavericks right fielder was also among the classification leaders with his .577 slugging percentage and .964 OPS. The Seattle Mariners acquired Chavez in a December trade with Toronto, who originally signed him as a non-drafted free agent in July 2005.
J.D. Martinez, 23, of Hollywood, Fla., led Class A with a 1.030 OPS and was second in the classification with a .598 slugging percentage. The Lexington Legends right fielder led the South Atlantic League with a .362 average and a .433 on-base percentage in winning league MVP honors. The Houston Astros selected Martinez in the 20th round in 2009 out of Nova Southeastern University.
Mike Trout, 19, of Millville, N.J., hit a combined .341 with the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in being named this year's winner of the 51st annual J.G. Taylor Spink Award as the Topps/Minor League Player of the Year. The center fielder led the Midwest League with a .362 batting average and a .454 on-base percentage. Trout's 56 total stolen bases tied for fifth best in Minor League Baseball. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim drafted him with the 25th overall pick in 2009 out of high school.
Jason Hagerty, 23, of St. Louis, Mo., hit .302 with 14 home runs and 74 runs batted in for the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The catcher finished second in the Midwest League with a .423 on-base percentage and threw out 34% of the base runners who tried to steal. The San Diego Padres took Hagerty in the fifth round in 2009 out of the University of Miami.
Rich Poythress, 23, of Grovetown, Ga., hit .315 with a Class A best 130 RBIs for the High Desert Mavericks. The first baseman finished third in the classification with 31 homers and a .580 slugging percentage. The Seattle Mariners drafted Poythress in the second round in 2009 out of the University of Georgia.
Matthew Moore, 21, of Edgewood, N.M., led Class A starters in strikeouts (208) and strikeouts per nine innings pitched (12.94). In 144.2 innings, the Charlotte Stone Crabs left-hander held Florida State League batters to a league-best .210 average. Moore was named the circuit's pitcher of the week four times. The Tampa Bay Rays selected Moore in the eighth round in 2007 out of high school.
