Norton, 38, will enter his first full season as a manager, after beginning his coaching career in 2010 as the Zephyrs' hitting coach, before being promoted to interim manager on June 23 when the Florida Marlins tabbed Edwin Rodriguez to skipper the big league club. The interim tag was removed from Norton's title on July 16, and he led the Zephyrs to a 66-77 record. The Z's went 33-40 with Norton at the helm.
Corbell, 50, returns to New Orleans, where he served as the Zephyrs' pitching coach in 2005, when the Z's ranked 12th in the Pacific Coast League with a 4.87 team ERA. Corbell is entering his 10th year as a minor league pitching coach, and his fifth year in the Florida Marlins organization, after two-year stints with Jamestown (2007-08) and Greensboro (2009-10). Originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 21st round in 1983, Corbell went 54-42 with a 3.67 ERA in 141 career minor league appearances (133 starts) in the Giants and Oakland Athletics systems.
2011 will mark the professional coaching debut for Minor, 36, a college teammate of Greg Norton's at the University of Oklahoma in 1993. After being drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 12th round in 1996, Minor made his Major League debut with the Giants in 2000, and batted .232 in 136 games over parts of four seasons. He established career highs in 2002 by playing in 83 games and hitting 10 home runs, helping the Giants to the National League pennant. Following his retirement in 2006, Minor returned to his alma mater as a volunteer hitting coach for the Sooners, and operated the Minor-Foral Baseball Academy, of which he is co-owner.
Miller is entering his 10th season in the Marlins organization, seventh season as the athletic trainer of the Triple-A affiliate, and third season in New Orleans. In 2010, Miller was named the trainer for the Pacific Coast League All-Star team, the second time he was he was so honored (2007). After receiving his Master of Science in kinesiology from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2000, Miller spent two seasons in the Montreal Expos system before joining the Marlins.
The Zephyrs begin the 2011 season in Nashville on April 7. The 18th home opener in New Orleans is on Friday, April 15, when the Zephyrs host the Round Rock Express. Ticket packages are available now at the Zephyr Field box office, or by calling (504) 734-5155.
