The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, were outlasted in 13 innings by the Buffalo Bisons, 3-2 on Friday night. Buffalo scored the winning run in the final frame off of Matt Chico, the Chiefs' sixth pitcher of the game. Jason Pridie and Justin Turner began the inning with singles before advancing on a Fernando Martinez sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk to Val Pascucci loaded the bases, Pridie scored on a pitch just out of the reach of catcher Jhonatan Solano.

Syracuse (1-1) rallied late after trailing 1-0 for most of the game. The Chiefs scored two runs in the eighth to take a 2-1 lead thanks to a two-run double off the bat of Chris Marrero. Brian Bixler's leadoff walk and Corey Brown's bunt single set the table for Marrero, who scorched a double down the right field line with one out.

The Bisons (1-1) would get the run back in the bottom of the inning. Pridie led off with a double to right field off lefthander Lee Hyde, making his Chiefs debut. After Hyde recorded two outs, righthander Josh Wilkie surrendered a game-tying double to Pascucci. The two teams would trade scoreless frames until Buffalo's game-winning run in the 13th.

Lefthander Ross Detwiler sparkled in his first start of 2011 for the Chiefs. The southpaw allowed just four hits and one run over six innings, striking out eight while walking only one. Syracuse's bullpen turned in another excellent performance for the second straight game, combining for six and one-third innings of five-hit, two-run ball. J.D. Martin shined in relief with four shutout innings, allowing just one hit.

The Chiefs begin a four-game series against Lehigh Valley on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park. Righthander Garrett Mock takes the mound for Syracuse against Iron Pigs righthander Eddie Bonine. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
