Reno jumped ahead early with a six-run second inning and never looked back in the series opener. The Aces brought 11 men to the plate in that second frame-highlighted by a three-run blast off the bat of Peña, his third of the season.

Tony Abreu finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Gillespie tripled twice, drove in a run and scored twice. Matt Torra (1-0) earned the victory Monday, scattering a run on five hits over 6.0 innings of work. Torra struck out two and didn't walk a batter. Daniel Stange tossed two scoreless frames, and Esmerling Vasquez ended the proceedings with a perfect ninth inning.
Sky Sox starter Josh Muecke (0-1) was chased after allowing six unearned runs over two innings of work and was pinned with the loss. Four Colorado Springs relievers combined to hold Reno to three runs on eight hits over the final seven frames.
