HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The South Atlantic League announced today that Hagerstown Suns outfielder Bryce Harper has been selected as the Player of the Week for May 2-8, 2011.
Harper hit .500 (12-for-24) with four doubles, one home run and four RBIs during the week. He had a .571 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .792 walked four times, recorded one stolen base and struck out just twice.
In his first full professional season, Harper holds a .371 season average with 11 doubles, seven home runs, 24 RBIs. He has walked 16 times and is five-for-seven in steal attempts.
Harper, 18, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the first round (first overall) of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of the College of Southern Nevada. He was named No. 3 among Top 50 Prospects by MLB.com entering the 2011 season.
