The fiery skipper guided Sacramento to three Pacific Coast League Championships (2003, 2004, 2007), one Triple-A title (2007) and a remarkable six Division crowns (2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010) in his time at Raley Field.
The New York City native had a New York City swagger, and it rubbed off on his ballclub.
After parting ways with the Oakland A's organization this offseason, DeFrancesco returns to Sacramento from May 19-23 as the manager of the Oklahoma City RedHawks of the Pacific Coast League's American South Division. This time he will be in the visitor's dugout, looking to get his RedHawks on a winning path after a rocky start.
DeFrancesco quickly became a fan favorite with his engaging personality off the field. On the field it was a different story. The skipper was always working late-inning pitching matchups and letting PCL umpires hear it when he disagreed with a call.
All this made for one of the great personalities in Raley Field history.
Welcome back, Tony! If only for four games.
