Gnats Shutout Tourists 2-0 Tuesday

Savannah Begins Seven-Game Homestand Thursday
June 7, 2011
One day after allowing ten runs in a game for the first time in 2011 on Monday night, Gnats' pitching recovered to shutout out the Asheville Tourists in a big 2-0 win on Tuesday afternoon in Asheville, NC. The Savannah win sends Asheville 4.5 games behind the first-place Gnats with 11 games to the play in the first half.

The Gnats (32-26) have now won four of their last five road series dating back to April 30.

Yohan Almonte started for the Gnats and held the Tourists off the board for the first four innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Ryan Fraser gave up just three hits over the next 4.2 innings, working into the ninth. Fraser fanned four to pick up his third win of the year. Josh Edgin collected his 12th save by striking out the only batter he faced in the ninth.

Tuesday, Albert Cordero provided all the offense the Gnats needed with a solo home run in the fourth inning. It was his second of the year.

The Gnats added an insurance run in the ninth inning. SS Wilfredo Tovar and LF Alonzo Harris singled and then CF Darrell Ceciliani dropped a pop-fly single into shallow left that brought home Tovar for a 2-0 lead.

The Gnats are off on Wednesday before beginning a seven-game home stand on Thirsty Thursday, June 9.
