NEW YORK -- The California League's top strikeout artist, Tyler Skaggs, will get the start June 21 when the Cal League hosts the best of the Carolina League in their annual All-Star showcase.

Of course, if Skaggs is a little off, hometown manager Jerry Weinstein will have plenty of options to turn to.

Skaggs was named the starter of the 2011 California/Carolina All-Star Game, which is set to be played in Modesto, Calif., marking the first time the Nuts have hosted the midsummer classic.

The D-backs prospect leads the league with 90 strikeouts, and he could be followed by Nuts ace Chad Bettis, who leads all 2010 Draft picks with 79 strikeouts.

The Cal League squad features several 2010 Draft picks, including San Jose outfielder Gary Brown, who leads the year's first-round picks in total bases, and Lake Elsinore third baseman Jedd Gyorko, who ranks first among all '10 selections in total bases.

The Carolina League did not announce its projected starter for the game, instead revealing a staff that includes former No. 2 overall Draft pick Drew Pomeranz. The Kinston left-hander will team with a pair of Rangers prospects, Joe Wieland and Robert Ross, as well as Wilmington ace Jake Odorizzi.

The Cal League counters with its top home run hitters, including High Desert's Vinnie Catricala and Lancaster's Kody Hinze, who are tied for the circuit lead with 14 longballs. Gyorko ranks second with 13.

Salem catcher Daniel Butler highlights the Carolina League lineup -- the Red Sox prospect has eight homers and leads the league with 46 RBIs in 45 games.

^ On June 15, the Carolina League announced the following changes to its roster. Salem's Chris Hernandez will be replaced by teammate Will Latimer. Salem's Reynaldo Rodriguez will be replaced on the roster and in the starting lineup by Wilmington's John Whittleman. Frederick's Tyler Townsend will be replaced by Winston-Salem's Andy Wilkins. Lynchburg's Todd Cunningham will be replaced by teammate Adam Milligan.

Note: In the California League, Bakersfield infielder Henry Rodriguez, Rancho Cucamonga pitcher Allen Webster and Lancaster infielder Jose Altuve all had enough votes to make the team, but have been promoted to Double-A. Inland Empire infielder Jean Segura was not named to the roster because of injury.
