The Suns received their only runs in the top of the 1st frame on a two-RBI rocket off the stick of 1B David Freitas, his 8th home run of the 2011 campaign. Freitas tomahawked a singled to left field in the 4th inning off LHP Jessie Biddle (3-6). Freitas produced the only two hits for the entire Suns offensive output so far in the game.
Lakewood plated their two runs in the last of the 5th inning when LHP Sammy Solis (1-0) threw a wild pitch allowing C Cameron Rupp, who doubled, to touch home. Then, on an infield single by 2B Carlos Perdomo, an errant throw to first base by Solis summoned home CF Miguel Alvarez, who got on board with an infield single.
With the game tied 2-2, a few minutes before the 10 o'clock hour, in the top of the 11th inning, and a steady stream of rainfall soaking the playing field, the umpiring crew deemed the surface not suitable to continue the extra-inning contest. After a 45 minute rain delay, the ballgame was suspended until Wednesday evening.
Play will continue at 6:05pm with 3B Sean Nicol at-bat for the Suns in the away half of the 11th frame, with one out, and no one on base. The pitcher for Lakewood was LHP Mario Hollands (4-4).
Live radio coverage will begin on WJEJ AM 1240 at 5:50pm with the Break Away 2 Sports Lounge Pre-game Show before the live play-by-play of the continuation of game three. Game two of the doubleheader will be a regularly scheduled nine inning game and it will begin either 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest or first pitch will be thrown at 7:05pm if the first game finishes by 6:35pm.
