Houston Astros to host open tryout at "The Joe"
06/15/2011 1:07 AM ET
TROY, N.Y. - On Monday June 20, the Houston Astros will hold an open tryout for prospective professional baseball players at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the tryout will begin promptly at 10 a.m.. Participants must be at least 16 years of age, with proof of age required at the time of registration.

The tryout held at "The Joe" will be under the direction of Houston Astros scout John Kosciak. No players selected by a major league team other than the Houston Astros in the 2011 June Draft will be eligible to participate in the camp. American Legion players are required to have a letter from their coach granting them permission to attend the camp.

Players must furnish their own uniforms, gloves, and shoes. Bats, balls, and catching equipment will be supplied by the Astros. No dressing areas will be available so players should arrive at the park in uniform and ready to begin the tryout.

Kosciak is the Northeast scout for the Astros after joining the organization prior to the 2009 season. He has 26 years of scouting experience, including tenures with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1994-2008), San Diego Padres (1985-94), and Philadelphia Phillies (1983-84).

Don't miss this opportunity to come out to "The Joe" and prove that you have what it takes to be a professional baseball player. For more information, please call the Tri-City ValleyCats at (518) 629-CATS.
