For the second night in a row, the Auburn Doubledays' pitching staff combined on a three-hit shutout, giving Auburn their first three-game sweep of the season in a 5-0 win at State College.
Ryan Demmin improved to 2-0 with five innings of two-hit baseball, and Travis Henke and Ben Grisz combined to pitch four innings, only allowing one hit as the Doubledays' improved to 5-1 on the season.
The win gives Auburn a four-game winning streak and keeps them spotless on the road.
For the fifth time this year, the Doubledays scored the game's first run, plating one in the top of the first on an RBI single by Adrian Nieto, giving him his seventh RBI of the three-game series. Auburn wouldn't score again till the sixth, when Caleb Ramsey drilled a two-out, two-run double that scored Nieto and Matt Skole, giving the Doubledays a 3-0 lead.
Two more runs were added in the eighth when Roberto Perez singled to right, driving in Russell Moldenhauer and Angelberth Montilla. Travis Henke and Ben Grisz did the rest, teaming up to retire 14 of the last 15 Spikes hitters, and giving the Doubledays their fifth win of the season.
The Doubledays now return home for a six-game home stand that features three against Mahoning Valley followed by three with Williamsport. Thursday night is Dollar Night at Falcon Park, where fans can purchase 12 oz. beer, 12 oz. soda, hot dog, and xxxx for $1 a piece. It is also American Gladiator Night and fans are invited to dress up like an American Gladiator. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm as RHP Wirkin Estevez (0-1) with look for his first win of the season.
