SAVANNAH, GA -The Savannah Sand Gnats split a doubleheader with the Augusta GreenJackets Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium, taking game one 2-1 before dropping the nightcap 4-2. The First-Half Champion Gnats are now 1-1 in the second half and 40-31 overall.

Savannah pitching held the GreenJackets (32-40/1-1) to one hit in the game one win. LHP Angel Cuan, making his first start of the year after 18 relief appearances, tossed three perfect innings with one strikeout to set the tone. The GreenJackets scored their only run in the fourth inning off reliever Adam Kolarek without a base hit, using a walk, sacrifice bunt, wild pitch and sacrifice fly to grab a 1-0 lead. Kolararek worked two innings to earn his second win of the year. Hamilton Bennett worked two scoreless, hitless innings, for his fifth Gnats' save.

The Gnats scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-1 lead. 3B Aderlin Rodriguez led off the fourth with a double and later scored on 1B Sam Honeck's RBI groundount. In the fifth, in a 1-1 game, Rafael Fernandez singled into right field driving home CF Darrell Ceciliani who had singled earlier in the frame.

In game two, the Gnats took a short-lived 2-1 lead on Rodriguez's two-run single into right field in the fourth inning. However, the GreenJackets answered back in the top of the fifth against starter Yohan Almonte. After a double and a walk, GreenJackets DH Josh Mazzola clubbed a three run home run to leftfield that gave the GreenJackets a 4-2 lead, which three Augusta relievers made hold up. Almonte gave up four runs, all earned, in five innings and was charged with his fourth loss of the year.

The Gnats and GreenJackets play game three of their four-game series Saturday night at 6:05 when Savannah sends RHP Ryan Fraser (4-5, 3.38) to the mound against RHP Taylor Rogers (6-6, 2.27). Gates open at 5 pm and the broadcast on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com begins at 5:50 pm.
