2011 Adenhart Memorial Scholarship winner

July 6, 2011
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Kernels Foundation presented Emily Saville as the winner of the 2011 Nick Adenhart Memorial Scholarship before the Kernels game with Burlington on July 5.

Emily is a 2011 graduate of Linn-Mar HS where she was a four-year participant in soccer, cross country, and track and was the captain on each of those teams. She participated in many school activities and was the president of SODA (Students Opposed to Drugs and Alcohol). She graduated with a 3.89 GPA and will be attending Central College in Pella this fall.

Nick Adenhart was a bright young pitcher who played for the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2006, and was a rising star in the Los Angeles Angels organization. Only hours after Nick's 2009 season debut on the mound for the Angels, a drunk driver tragically killed him on April 9, 2009 at age 22.

Nick's family would like to honor him by awarding a $1,000 scholarship in his memory. The Kernels Foundation is privileged to administer the scholarship on behalf of Nick's family.

The Kernels begin a three game road trip tonight in Clinton at 7:00 pm, returning to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium to open a nine game, 10-day home stand on Saturday, July 9th with games against Peoria, Bowling Green and Dayton.

Fans can enjoy all the action with Morgan Hawk on the radio home of Kernels baseball, 1450 KMRY AM, 93.1 KMRY FM, or listen on-line at www.kmryradio.com, or www.kernels.com.
