UNC and South Meck High School Grad Reaches Triple-A with Knights
FORT MILL, S.C. - Infielder Kyle Shelton has been transferred to the Charlotte Knights roster. Shelton, 24, is a native of Charlotte and is a 2008 graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he starred for the Tar Heels for four seasons. He played at the high school level for South Mecklenburg High School where he earned All-State honors.
Shelton is currently in his fourth professional season and he has not previously played at the Triple-A level. He began this season with the Class AA Birmingham Barons where he hit .248 (35-141) with three home runs and170 RBI in 42 games.
Shelton played six different positions for the Barons including first base, second base, third base, shortstop, left field and right field. The Knights return home tonight where they begin a four game series against the Indianapolis Indians.
