LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners pulled out all the bells and whistles as the 2011 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, presented by Lowell General Hospital, came to LeLacheur Park for the first time in its' seven year history, as the National League affiliated All-Stars topped their American League counterparts, 7-3, Tuesday night.

The National League stars got on the board first in the second inning against Brennan Smith (CT) behind a pair of doubles by State College Spikes. Wes Freeman led off the inning with a double, scoring on an RBI single by Auburn's Matt Skole. The Spikes catcher, Samuel Gonzalez, followed with a two-run double of his own, putting the NL Stars ahead, 3-0. A Justin Gominsky (TC) sacrifice fly pushed the score to 4-0.

The American League cut the lead in half against Batavia's Mike Nesseth in the bottom of the third inning. Bryson Myles (MV) had a one-out single, stealing second base and coming around to score on an RBI triple by Chih Fang Pan (VT). Pan would score on a Mason Williams (SI) sacrifice fly to bring the AL stars within two.

The home team inched closer in the bottom half of the sixth inning as mass substitutions took place, touching Batavia's Todd McInnis for a run. A Jeff Malm (HV) double was followed by an RBI single from Connecticut's Dean Green to bring the American League within a run.

The National League put the game away however in the top of the ninth inning against Staten Island closer Branden Pinder. Skole worked a lead off walk before Pinder retired the next two batters. Kyrell Hudson (Williamsport) singled and Daniel Muno (Brooklyn) ripped a double to left, scoring two. Hendry Jimenez (Auburn) followed with an RBI single of his own for what would hold as a 7-3 final.

For the hometown fans, outfielder Keury De La Cruz started in right field, batting seventh, finishing 1-for-2. Outfielder Seth Schwindenhammer replaced De La Cruz defensively in the sixth inning, popping out in his lone at-bat. Garin Cecchini (injured) and Matty Johnson (promoted) were also selected for the game but did not play.

Schwindenhammer did give the hometown fans a thrill, winning the pre-game All-Star Skills Competition on a last swing home run, while Gonzalez's two-run double earned him MiLB.com's Top Star Award post-game.

The fun doesn't end at LeLacheur Park with the All-Star Game, as the Spinners kick off a six-game homestand Wednesday night at LeLacheur. Raul Alcantara, promoted from the GCL Red Sox Monday, will make his Spinners debut with a 7:05 first pitch.
