Travs Get Three On Post Season AS Team

Three Travs made the 2011 Texas League Post-Season All Star Team and right-hander Matt Shoemaker was named TL Pitcher of the Year. With Shoemaker, center fielder Mike Trout and starting right-hander Garrett Richards also made the team. Trout and Richards have since been called up to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

In 21 starts this year for the Travs, Shoemaker, 24, is tied for the lead in wins with Richards and Northwest Arkansas Natural left-hander Will Smith. Shoemaker has a 12-3 record and leads the TL with a 2.21 ERA. He has given up 117 hits in 146.1 innings, striking out 125 and walking 34 (3.7/1 SO/BB ratio). Shoemaker also leads the league with five complete games, batting average against, (.217) and walks and hits/ innings pitched at 1.03.

Shoemaker was recently named the Angels' minor-league pitcher of the month for July when he went 3-1 with a 1.24 ERA. He was a TL North Division All Star and was TL pitcher of the week three times. From Trenton, Mich., he signed with the Angels as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan University in 2008.

Trout, 20, is the Angels' No. 1 prospect and the No. 2 prospect in baseball according to Baseball America. In 91 games with the Travs, Trout batted .326 with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs, batting lead-off most of the year. A TL North Division All Star, he scored 82 runs, had 18 doubles, 13 triples and 33 stolen bases. He had a .414 on-base percentage and a .958 on-base plus slugging percentage. Trout was drafted by the Angels in the first round (25th overall) of the 2009 draft out of Millville (N.J.) Senior High School.

Also a TL North Division All Star, Richards, 23, is the Angels' No. 7 prospect and went 12-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 21 starts for the Travs. Richards had three complete games and struck out 100 batters in 141 innings, walking 40. The Angels drafted Richards 42nd overall in the 2009 draft out of the University of Oklahoma. He is currently on the disabled list with a groin injury with the Angels.
