The Pioneer League released its All-Star team on Saturday evening, and the Orem Owlz has three players on the team, as well as four players and their manager named as All-Star Honorable Mentions. In addition, Taylor Lindsey, a 1st-rd pick in the 2010 draft, has been given the Ralph Nelles Award, which is the award for the Pioneer League's Most Valuable Player.
Lindsey, Ryan Jones and Frazier Hall are the three Owlz named to the All-Star team. The players who have received honorable mentions are Kaleb Cowart, C.J. Cron, Danny Reynolds and Jerod Yakubik. Owlz Manager Tom Kotchman is one of the four managers who received votes for Manager of the Year.
Lindsey has been a key reason why the Owlz are currently in first place in the Pioneer League. The Scottsdale, AZ native is hitting .370 with nine home runs, and a league best 58 runs scored.
"He's had a good year and has impressed a lot of people. This award was voted on by his peers. It's a nice award and it can't be taken away from him," said Owlz Manager Tom Kotchman.
Lindsey is ranked third in the Pioneer League in batting, behind fellow teammates Hall and Yakubik. Lindsey also leads the league with 90 hits and 149 total bases.
Jones and Hall have both been pivotal parts of the Owlz team this year. Jones is hitting .324, which is 10th in the Pioneer League, with 12 HR, 47 runs and 55 RBI. Jones is 4th in the league in HR, runs and 2nd in RBI. Hall leads the league with a .378 batting average, to go along with 38 runs, 8 home runs and 43 RBI.
