But it didn't keep Cavazos-Galvez from delivering a two-homer game on a career-high five-RBI night as Chattanooga doubled up Montgomery, 10-5. The Lookouts (42-27) clinched their playoff berth earlier in the day when Tennessee lost to Birmingham, 5-1, in the first game of a doubleheader.
"We knew we had won [the second half] before the game," Cavazos-Galvez said, "but we wanted to go out and win and celebrate on our terms."
Cavazos-Galvez clubbed a three-run homer in the sixth and a two-run shot in the seventh. He also smacked two longballs in a 16-3 crushing of Birmingham on Aug. 10. He matched a then-career high with four RBIs in that contest.
"I was being aggressive with a one-run lead and runners on first and second," explained Cavazos-Galvez. "I wasn't too familiar with the pitcher [Neil Schenk], but I was looking for a ball up and put a good swing on it."
Cavazos-Galvez was also unfamiliar with Sergio Espinosa, who surrendered his second shot. "I anticipated an offspeed pitch early," he said. "I didn't sit on it, but I was looking soft. He threw a change-up down, and I was able to stay through it."
Ethan Martin (5-3) allowed three runs -- two earned -- in five innings to pick up the win, while Will Savage scattered two runs on six hits with four strikeouts over four frames for his first save.
Chattanooga rebounded in the second half after struggling to a 35-35 record and a fourth-place finish in the division in the first half.
"We're very proud. We've come a long way, especially since the first half when we struggled a bit and things weren't going our way," Cavazos-Galvez said. "It's been an up-and-down season, but we're going to try to carry some momentum into the playoffs. Momentum means confidence."
