Suns RHP Matt Swynenberg pitched 2.1 scoreless innings but was removed from the mound with one in the 3rd inning due to an injury concern. Swynenberg was relieved by RHP Sam Brown (4-6), the eventual winning pitcher, who tossed 2.2 stanzas and surrendered one earned run on three hits with no walks and one strikeout.
The Hub City boys of summer tagged LHP Austin Wright for five runs in the 4th frame after Wright was perfect through three innings. CF Michael Taylor doubled up the left field line as the leadoff hitter, DH Jason Martinson drew a walk, and 2B Adrian Sanchez blasted an RBI double into left center field. RF Kevin Keyes lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to CF Zach Collier before LF Randolph Oduber walked. SS Blake Kelso ripped an RBI one-base knock into center field to score Sanchez. 1B Brett Newsome sliced a single to left field loading the bases and 3B Justino Cuevas served a two-run single into center field.
The BlueClaws got their first and last run in the 5th inning when Collier blasted a double to right center field and C Cameron Rupp knocked an RBI single into left field.
Hagerstown LHP Paul Applebee was terrific out of the bullpen, slinging three perfect innings from the 6th to the 8th, before allowing a pair of singles in the 9th inning as LF Bill Rice shot a single up the middle and 2B Carlos Alonso ricocheted an infield single off Applebee's cleat. The southpaw induced a 5-3 season-ending double play ball off the stick of 1B Jeff Lanning.
The home club collected a trio of runs in the 6th inning with an RBI single by C Adrian Nieto sprayed through the left side of the infield after Kelso tripled up the right field chalk, and Martinson swatted a two-run single into left field with the bases loaded.
An inning later, Newsome sizzled an RBI live drive to center field to summon home Oduber, who laced a single into left to get aboard.
The Suns finish the year with a (41-28) record at Municipal Stadium in 2011 and (15-9) against Lakewood.
