2013 Reading Phillies Associate Internships Available 

The Reading Phillies internship is a great learning experience involving marketing, sales, ticket operations, customer service and many other aspects of the sports industry. The interns work directly with the front office staff to get an overview of all of the different positions. We are looking for people who would not only perform well in these capacities but who are passionate about baseball. 

The internship requires a great amount of dedication throughout the baseball season. The interns work 40-100 hours/week depending on our game schedule. During the day our interns work in the ticket office. Responsibilities include: ticket sales, outgoing sales calls, computer database entry, and managing various promotions and fan oriented programs such as fundraising and our kids club. During games our interns cover several aspects of the Reading Phillies experience including groups, ticket office, customer service and on-field entertainment. Our interns grow as sales people throughout the season. We give them the opportunity to sell sponsorships, promote events and practice guerilla marketing techniques during games and out in the community. Group Sales Associate

Become part of a high-energy team while enhancing your job skills. Our Group Sales Department is a sales based position that has unlimited potential. You will work in a unique environment, second to none in professional baseball. 

JOB DESCRIPTION / DUTIES:

*Strong commitment to making outgoing renewal and cold calls to clients
*Selling various ticket packages including party decks, birthday parties, group tickets, and special experiences via the phone, email, and in person 
*Assisting group sales associates with fulfillment and client servicing 
*Calling established leads and generating new leads
*Assist in preparing events 
*Game day duties include preparation of group areas, customer service, administrative tasks and other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

* Desire to be successful in a fast-paced sales environment 
* Strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work independently 
* Ability to take initiative and being able to multi tasks and prioritize 
* Exceptional customer service skills and professional attitude will be expected
* Must have knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

Marketing/Graphic Arts Associate

JOB DESCRIPTION / DUTIES: The Marketing Intern will assist with creating promotional material such as fliers for upcoming games. This person will also gain knowledge in the execution of theme nights, special events, and promotions. The Marketing intern will learn to draft radio promotions for game-day broadcast as well as reporting a recap of all media exposure for sponsors. This intern will also gain exposure to pre-game activities such as the First Pitch, American Flag Groups, Hometown Heroes and Neighborhood Champions individuals or groups and other aspects of in game entertainment. The intern will partner with staff and other interns to help schedule our street team at events throughout the city.

REQUIREMENTS: The Marketing/Graphics Intern should have experience in marketing or the sports and entertainment field. This individual must be a well-organized self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills. He or she must be detail oriented, and a problem solver. There will also be opportunities for this intern to be involved with distributing promotional items in the community as well as assisting with any team mascot in the community. The intern will work closely with other departments to create a wide range of print graphics including but not limited to: ballpark signage, promotional items, brochures, posters, flyers and invitations. In addition, they will expand their knowledge in creating print ads and interact with various clients and performing other functions on an as need basis. Candidates need to have working knowledge of Adobe Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. With that knowledge the intern will learn to handle multiple projects under flexible and extreme deadlines while building their portfolio.

Media Relations/Public Relations Associate

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES: Throughout the course of the season, the Media Relations/Public Relations Associate will gain full knowledge of the day-to-day operations of the Reading Phillies Public Relations Department. The associate will assist with but not be limited to creating and providing content for the Baseballtown Gazette, catering to attending media members, learning MiLB Gameday program, and writing and posting original content for official website. Other duties include maintaining day-to-day stats, researching statistics, and assisting various public relations projects. Along with the media relations duties, the associate will assist the team's Video Director in creating video board slides, camera work, and other duties assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: A background in collegiate sports information, athletic department, newspaper, television or radio station or other professional sports franchise is preferred for the position. Candidates should have strong writing and communication skills while being able handle multiple tasks and projects throughout the season. The associate must have working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel. All interested in the position must be prepared to work each game and weekly non-game day. Above all else, the Media Relations associate should have a knowledge of the game of baseball, including scorekeeping and game situations.

Concessions Associate

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES: The concessions associate helps oversee the overall organization, sanitation, and stocking the levels of all concession stands at FirstEnergy Stadium. The associate works with the Concessions Supervisor to maintain proper inventory levels and ensure that concession venues are setup correctly for each event. Additionally, this person will assist with the scheduling of the part-time concession employees including managers and warehouse staff during game day operations. The Concessions Intern will report directly to the Concessions Supervisor. Other duties include:

• Monitor quality of products and services produced by staff and ensure compliance with established standards.
• Routinely inspect areas of assigned responsibility and report all substandard safety, security or equipment conditions to manager.
• Consistently monitor standards and make recommendations for change.
• Maintain steady productivity through close observation.
• Adjust daily schedule and shift personnel to complete essential duties when the need arises.
• Coordinate work of staff to promote efficiency of operations.
• Train staff, as assigned, and assist with orientation of new employees in a timely and efficient manner.
• Monitor customer traffic, make appropriate adjustments and bring all relevant findings to the attention of management.
• Accurately inventory supplies daily and requisition items needed to meet par levels. 
• Ensure that supplies are utilized properly and cost-effectively as per standards.
• Report changes in menus or item substitutions to Managers.
• Ensure that all food and supplies are stored and/or maintained under proper conditions as per standards.
• Monitor food and supply quality and make relevant recommendations for product utilization.
• Inspect all unit storage facilities each day so that proper temperatures and conditions are maintained, food is covered, labeled and dated.
• Complete counter supervisor reports in an accurate and timely manner. 
• Keep immediate supervisor informed of all relevant information including any diversions from normal activity, any substandard condition, personnel matters, etc.
• Meet routinely with assigned staff to relay relevant information and encourage suggestions for service and/or quality improvements.
• Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required from time to time.

REQUIREMENTS: Position requires fast-paced mobility in an often tightly-quartered environment and giving direction most of the working day. Requires occasional lifting of food trays or food items weighing up to 30 pounds. Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights and weekends. The internship starting in March of 2013 and lasting through the end of the baseball season in late August. The candidate will be required to work a full time schedule that includes regular office hours (Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm), all R-Phils home games, and any other events pertaining to food service. This schedule varies and includes nights, weekends, and holidays.

COMPENSATION: The Concessions Intern will receive $600 - 800 per month from March-August. 

All college majors are welcomed. Some of our interns are working for college credit while others participate for the experience alone. We prefer that our interns have at least completed their junior year of college while many of our past interns did the internship after graduating. The Reading Phillies internship is a paid position, which may also offer a housing option. We have internships starting in January, March and in early May. All of our interns work the length of the season (late August or early September) or until they return to college. We are looking for outgoing individuals who have a strong interest in sales. The Reading Phillies internship is a great start for people interested in pursuing a career in sports or the entertainment industry. The Reading Phillies will start accepting resumes from September thru the first week of November for the 2013 season.

Throughout the season the Reading Phillies conduct two seminars and monthly evaluations. The evaluations are designed to further the learning process while the interns are here.
