Hoppers Donate $100,000 to Local Charities

The Greensboro Grasshoppers have kept their preseason Guarantee to Give Pledge and donated $100,000 to local charities after making the playoffs.

President and General Manager Donald Moore, with help from Hoppers Field Manager Andy Haines, randomly selected the 20 charities that would get $5,000 apiece at a celebration Tuesday with sponsors and season ticket holders. More than 275 nominations were entered in the drawing.

The 20 charities that will benefit from the Guarantee to Give Pledge are as follows:

  • Make a Wish Foundation: Nominated by Scott Mortenson/Garden Creek Clinic
  • P.O.W.E.R of Play: Nominated by John Slack
  • SPCA of the Triad: Nominated by Kim Highfill
  • Natural Science Center: Nominated by Billy Tesh/Pest Management, Inc.
  • Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center: Nominated by Randall Myers/Randall's Tire Pro's
  • Red Dog Farm: Nominated by Greg Berry/Ferguson Enterprises
  • Boy Scouts: Nominated by Bobby Rives/Moser, Mayer, Phoenix & Associates
  • American Red Cross: Nominated by Gail Casper/Pace Communications
  • Salvation Army: Nominated by Boys & Girls Club of Greensboro: Macie Stratton/U.S. National Whitewater Center
  • Piedmont Land Conservancy: Nominated by Taylor Owens/The Owens Family
  • ALS Association: Nominated by David Michaels/Redwolf Development
  • West Market St. United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund: Nominated by Lex Alexander/Greensboro College

The promise was to make the playoffs, but of course, the Hoppers won it all in September, getting their first South Atlantic League Championship since 1982.

The team has donated nearly $850,000 over the years.
