Goodwin Goes Yard in Suns 8-6 Win Over Power
04/08/2012 4:21 PM ET

Hagerstown, MD - Brian Goodwin's three-run blast in the third inning jump started the Hagerstown Suns (3-1) offense as they came from behind to beat the West Virginia Power (1-3), 8-6, and win the four-game season opening series (3-games-to-1) on Easter Sunday at Municipal Stadium.

Goodwin's team-leading second home run of the season was one of two hits on the day for the Suns centerfielder, and it tied the game at 3-3 after Hagerstown fell behind early. Third baseman Matt Skole also continued his hot start to the season, contributing a double and two more RBIs on the day. He trails only Goodwin (8) for the team lead in RBIs with six. First baseman Justin Miller knocked in his second RBI of the season, while second baseman Hendry Jimenez drove in a pair of runs with his first hit of the year, a fifth inning double.

Suns starter Kylin Turnbull did not factor in the decision, lasting four innings and giving up three runs on five hits. Turnbull was struck with a Chris Lashmet line drive in the upper torso during the fourth inning, but did complete the frame. Reliever Taylor Hill (1-0) earned the victory with 4.1 innings out of the bullpen, giving up three runs on five hits and one strike out. After allowing two runs on the ninth inning, Hill was replaced by lefty Christian Meza (1), who recorded the final two outs of the game for his first save of the year.

Power starting pitcher Zac Fuesser also took a no-decision, leaving the game after allowing three runs on two hits and four walks over three innings. Reliever Orlando Castro (0-1) was tabbed with the first loss of his professional career (previously 11-0) allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over two innings.

Offensively, West Virginia third baseman Kirk Singer was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs while first baseman Chris Lashmet was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, both in their season debuts.

The Suns will begin a three game series with the Lexington Legends (Astros) at Municipal Stadium on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Chris McKenzie (0-0), a returning pitcher from the 2011 Suns, will start for Hagerstown. He'll face Lexington's LHP Kyle Hallock (0-0). Individual game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans, and group are now on sale.
