Mitchell held the Red Wings to a pair of hits over eight innings for his second win of the season as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees beat "visiting" Rochester, 2-0.

The Red Wings, playing as the road team in their own ballpark, reach base in only three innings against Mitchell -- Matt Carson hit a leadoff double in the second and Joe Benson reached on a fielder's choice, but Mitchell escaped when Matt Rizzotti lined into a double play.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka hit a one-out single in the fourth, but Mitchell picked him off. And Benson drew a one-out walk in the fifth but was stranded after stealing second.

Mitchell was otherwise dominant, tossing 1-2-3 innings en route to his first win since April 8. Benson struck out leading off the eighth and was ejected by umpire Gerard Ascani.

The Yankees finally gave the Clemson product some support in the sixth when Major League veteran Ramiro Pena singled, red-hot Dwayne Wise doubled and Steve Pearce followed with a two-run double off Cole DeVries.

Mitchell, 24, wasn't among the Yankees' Top 20 prospects this spring, despite going 13-9 with a 3.18 ERA in 28 games at Triple-A last season. The 2008 10th-round pick has 40 wins over four Minor League seasons, seeing time in the International League in each of the last three years.

The right-hander held Nationals top prospect Bryce Harper and the Syracuse Chiefs to one hit over five innings in his debut on April 1 but was charged with four runs over four innings in a no-decision on April 13 at Buffalo. Wednesday's win helped lower his ERA to 2.12.

Mitchell and the Yankees technically were the home team Wednesday. Ongoing renovations to PNC Park in Moosic, Pa., have forced the club to play all of its games on the road. On some nights, like Wednesday, they are the home team in the ballpark of their hosts. The Yankees also will play home games in Batavia, Lehigh Valley, Buffalo, Pawtucket and Syracuse.

Mitchell saw time at big league camp in Spring Training but was reassigned. He's part of a strong rotation that includes Top 50 prospects Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances.
