The Mudcats (6-8) drop their fifth in sixth games. Myrtle Beach (8-6) takes over first place in the Southern division with their fourth win in five games.
Dale Dickerson (0-2) takes the tough-luck loss by allowing three runs in the ninth, none of those earned. Ben Rowen (2-0) earns the win despite allowing two runs over three innings. Ben Henry pitched the ninth for his first save.
The comeback overshadowed some nice offensive performances by Carolina. Giovanny Urshela recorded three bases hits and drove in a pair of runs. Moncrief finished 2-for-4 with a double and his second round-tripper of the season. Delvi Cid finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Pelicans rallied from a one-run deficit twice in the game. After a solo blast by Carlos Moncrief, Myrtle Beach began their final flurry with a single by Jake Skole. Dickerson got the next two outs with a ground ball and a fly to left. After a walk to Edwin Garcia, Teodoro Martinez reached on a throwing error that sailed into the first base dugout. The miscue tied the game at 5-5. Odubel Herrera followed with a double to left-center scoring the winning runs.
The Mudcats came back from an early 3-1 hole to tie the game in the third inning on back-to-back hits by Urshela and Aguilar. Their first lead came in the sixth when a Cid single put Carolina ahead 4-3.
Carolina hosts the Myrtle Beach Pelicans for the third of four on Saturday night at 6:15 p.m. Right-hander Brett Brach (0-0, 8.10) makes his first start for the Mudcats against righty Wilmer Font (0-1, 9.00).
